Mitsubishi Motors officials in Normal, Ill., say they know of no decision by the Japanese auto maker to cut production at its only U.S. plant as part of a last-ditch effort to turn around losses fuelled by bad credit and recall scandals.
Though Mitsubishi's worldwide production has been under review since May, when the auto maker announced a plan to pare a $9 billion (U.S.) debt, no decisions have been made, said Dan Irvin, spokesman for the company's 3,100-employee plant.
A company spokesman in Tokyo, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mitsubishi will cut production at the Illinois plant, but won't decide how much until September.
