General Motors of Canada has finally revealed its prices for a trio of new 2004 Chevrolet entries aimed at the lower end of the price spectrum.
The Aveo carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $13,480 while the Optra and larger Epica base models begin at $16,190 and $24,595 respectively.
These all-new, Korean-built cars will bring buyers a combination of great styling and very competitive prices, according to GM's entry-level nameplate.
They "are fun to drive and well contented," claims Debbie Hawe, GM of Canada marketing manager.
To attract younger buyers, the Aveo is Chevrolet's new arrival in the small car arena, currently populated by the likes of Hyundai's Accent and the Kia Rio. Designed by Italdesign in Turin and built by GM's Korean Daewoo affiliate, the Aveo is available in 4-door sedan and sporty looking 5-door hatchback body styles.
Each is available in base and LS trim. Both offer a roomy interior and peppy performance. Power comes from a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder engine with 105 horsepower output and 107 ft-lb of torque. The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual, though a 4-speed automatic is optional.
Aveo prices start at $13,480 for the base 4-door sedan. Moving up, the LS trim level calls for a $14,050 outlay. The base 5-door hatchback starts at $13,820 while the LS version carries a sticker price of $14,385.
The Optra and Epica are also built in Korea and won't be available to U.S. customers.
Facing off against market rivals like the Hyundai Elantra, the Optra is a 4-door sedan also available in base and LS trim. The Optra features a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine with 119 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. The base model starts at $16,190 and the LS version at $17,465. Spotted slightly more upmarket, the Epica should appeal to those seeking a little more style, elegance, space and power. This all-new mid-size sedan is available in LS and LT models and features a transversely-mounted, 2.5-litre, inline 6-cylinder engine that generates 155 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The base LS model starts at $24,595 while the top-line LT comes in at $26,760.
All three new arrivals will have a freight charge of $930.
